This year, BeaconFlash has seen a surge in submission numbers and, in particular, requests for personalised critique. Our volunteer judges are thrilled to be reading such a large volume of high-quality entries, but please be patient and allow good time for the results to be uploaded and feedback sent out.

We're happy to announce that the three shortlisted stories for December's round of BeaconFlash, responding to the prompt 'The Fourth King', are now out. Congratulations to the following entries!
Thank you to everyone who has submitted to BeaconFlash so far. November's prompt was 'Get with the Programme'. We hope to keep seeing your entries for the upcoming months, and it is never too late to take your hand to writing!
The results are in for round two of the 2025/26 BeaconFlash competition, with entries responding to the prompt of 'Out of the Mist'. Judges Claire Steel and Jill Glenn have blind-read all entries.
The three stories, listed in alphabetical order, will go through to final judging at the end of May.
We are delighted to announce the results of round one of the 2025/26 BeaconFlash competition to the theme of ‘Turning of the Table’. The three stories listed below (in alphabetical order) go through to the final judging when the competition closes at the end of May 2025, announced at next July’s BeaconLit festival.
If your story is not listed below you are welcome to send it elsewhere. If it is, please refrain from doing so until after the final results are announced. NB. The overall top three will be posted in full on this website.
